Default Computer freezing up

Hello all. The other day my computer started freezing up seemingly out of nowhere. The computer has been fine and nothing has really changed. When it locks up the monitor will turn blue like i unplugged the cable and it has no signal...but things like audio will continue to play for 10-30 seconds and then everything locks up tight(i cant ssh in or anything).

The machine is running ubuntu 11.04 and the graphics card is a gtx260 and Im using drivers 270.41.06. I was not getting any backtrackes due to it locking up...so i ssh'ed into the box from a server and ran tail on some logs and waited for it to lock up again...here is what i got:
tail -f /var/log/syslog

So after doing some reading around the web i saw someone suggest it may be related to compositing...i switched from using ubuntu's unity to using the old gnome2 interface with no effects turned on(and also disabled compositing extention via xorg.conf) and now the computer is not hard locking up...im still getting issues...but the computer is not freezing up and it seems im able to get backtraces...so i attached the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz in hopes it may contain more helpful information. In it you will see there are several backtraces and each time one of those happened the computer would become unresponsive for about 20 seconds then everything would be fine.

If there is any other relevant info i forgot to include or anything else i can do to help get to the bottom of this please let me know. Thanks.

Same here also:
Code:
NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context
I'm starting to suspect that my hardware is gone bad.

How can you tell if the card is going bad? I would think you would get other symptoms as well such as artifacts or something like that

Hello guys... greetings from Brasil. This is my first post here :-)
I hope we can help each other.

I'm having the exact same problem here. Currently using driver 270.41.06
with Ubuntu 11.04.. I had the same issues with other drivers recently also.
Already tried Mint 10, OpenSuse 14, Mint 11, and even Windows 7 and XP.

Seems like the problem is hardware related since I had issues with all those
OS'es. Sometimes my BIOS even crashes and I have to enter setup to go
on.

I'm using an Asus P5Q with 4Gb of DDR2 RAM. My video card is a PoV nvidia
GTS 250.

Any ideas?

Could someone from NVIDIA finally comment on this issue!
What do these error messages mean?
Is this hardware or software related?
If the card has gone bad I'll have to rma it which would be a major PITA since I bought it from another country but at least I'll know what to do.

Unhappy Re: Computer freezing up

Hello,

Resurrecting this thread, as I am encountering this issue as well. System Freeze.

Although this time, the machine came back to me after about 20 seconds.

I'm seeing a lot of Nvidia users with this issue, so I would love to hear how people are resolving it.
