Default GT 230M: Black Screen When Switching to Virtual Terminal

I am experiencing the same issue as many others: when I switch to the console after starting X, I only get a black screen.
I can still blind type and execute commands, and if I switch back to tty7, I get my X interface back.
The console does not turn black immediately after starting X, so if I run "startx", and then immediately switch to any virtual terminal, I can still use it.
After around 10 minutes, it turns black, however.

I have tried various things found on this and other forums:

1. Use uvesafb
2. Use vesafb
3. Use no frame buffer at all
4. Set the "NVreg_UseVBios=0" option for the "nvidia" module

Nothing has worked so far.
Most people seem to suggest that using uvesafb / using no frame buffer, or upgrading the driver to the latest version should solve this issue.
This did not work for me, however.

I am attaching the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz file.

Thanks for any tips you might have on resolving this problem.

I have updated to kernel version 3.2.1 (gentoo sources r2), and I am not experiencing this issue anymore.
Maybe this was due to a different kernel setting?
Or were there any changes in kernel 3.2.1 which could have fixed this issue?
