Release highlights for 295.17 since 295.09:
* Fixed a bug that prevented the internal panel from working on some laptops with GeForce 7 series GPUs.
* Added support for xserver 1.11.99.901 (also known as 1.12 RC1).
No KDE fix then?

Starting feels like it takes a bit longer than 290.10 but I haven't been able to break it after a few hours of trying. Maybe I'm just very lucky but since 295.09 froze right after or even during loading kde every time I'd call it progress.

Smile Re: 295.09 hangs KDE startup

So I also had a problem with nVIDIA driver 295.09 with KDE 4.7, but I have now upgraded with nVIDIA driver 295.17 (64 bit ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/295.17/) and I have had no problems so far. I also have installed kernel 3.3.-rc2, all with openSUSE 11.4 but I am sure it would work with 12.1 as well. Still must use the following fix to get the nVIDIA driver to load with kernel 3.3-rc2 as well.

Code:
cd /lib/modules/3.3.0-rc2-0.9-desktop/source/arch/x86/include ; sudo cp generated/asm/*.h ./asm
OR

Code:
cd /lib/modules/<kernel name>/source/arch/x86/include ; sudo cp generated/asm/*.h ./asm
I have a blog on the subject here you can read: http://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdm...r-hard-way-29/

Thank You,

Could this possibly be connected with mysterious glib-networking (!!!) bug? Removing package seems to work for me (3 out of 3 without hang, before almost every time).
I haven't investigated it much yet, but there is some information in Gentoo's bugzilla (distro I'm using):
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365479
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365637

Seems not much nvidia-related, but this mysterious libproxy happens to segfault in NVidia OpenGL (!!!):
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366791

So, if somebody is still experiencing this issue, check out if you have glib-networking installed.

EDIT:
Nevermind, didn't help.

one-and-only, please start a new thread to track the issue you are having so we can separate it from the issue described in this thread, which we consider to be resolved.

danix, wekk, in fact last time with >=295.17 driver, it was one of the widgets (which using pykde) that hanged the startup. I was misled, because I tried a few times on fresh profile (before 295.17 driver) and it hanged too, so I thought it is not KDE configuration issue.
All in all, everything works now, thanks - that was really annoying.
