Post Windows 8 Consumer Preview Running on Tegra 3

The excitement continues to build in anticipation of Microsoft's Windows 8 rollout. At MWC this week, Microsoft's top Windows execs demoed Windows 8 running on a Tegra 3 device.

The demo by Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows and Windows Live Division, and Michael Angiulo, corporate VP of Windows Planning and Ecosystem team, follows the announcement confirming NVIDIA's partnership with Microsoft on a program to distribute Windows 8 test PCs, powered by the Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor with 4-Plus-1 architecture and the NVIDIA Icera i410 LTE modem, to software developers and device manufacturers.

This seeding program will help create a rich ecosystem of apps and devices for Windows 8 on ARM-based processors.

Watch the video below to see Mike Angiulo onstage with the Tegra 3 tablet. Tip: start at the 54:00 mark.

The demo includes:
  • Picture password unlocking
  • Fast and fluid panning of the Start screen
  • Talks about connected standby
  • Internet Explorer browsing and HTML5 video, with hardware accelerated graphics
  • An example of a Metro App from USAToday
  • Peripheral compatibility with class drivers
  • Office 15, which will include PowerPoint, Word, Excel and OneNote
