id commented on them.. they pretty much said they were not representative of what doom4 will look like. This probably means that they have doom4 on the table and will make it when money and development plans have been layed out, and that these are probably concept shots, either drawn or demonstrating what it could look like in the rage engine (since I can't see id using any one elses).

This thread has been pretty civil though, we all know these were what doom4 might have looked like if it went through a few years ago. I'm sure other parts of the net have not been so kind to criticism.

Armed, we are really at the point where graphics quality is up to the artist. Dx 9 vs 10/11 is probably a great example.. sure we have seen some great stuff in dx11, but we also see some awesome stuff done with dx9(consoles) when a top developer gets ahold of it.

I think RAGE pretty much told id software that they need better looking textures with no compression for DOOM 4. Even if those are shots of DOOM 4, they've probably all been redone to address the terrible compression issues in RAGE.

I certainly hope so. From the interviews Carmack gave after Rage's release, it's pretty clear that at least on the outside, he believes that developing for console was a poor choice and with any luck, whatever their next project is, they'll develop for PC and scale back for consoles.

Anyways, as far as what Doom 4 should/shouldn't be, I could care less. If it's fun, it's fun. I think Visceral games already made a better Doom game already though called deadspace.

I think I agree, although Doom 3 with the sikk and wulfen mods...there really are some well done moments in that game.

I'm really hoping Id goes all out for Doom 4's PC release. With the right writers and art direction + today's hardware capabilities it could easily be a triple A hit.

AM i the only person who really massively gets a kick out of Doom3, even after all this time? It was scary at start (when i first played it) and weirdly creepy by the end.

Nope. I just finished a replay using the wulfen texture pack and sikkmod. Loved it, love it love it.

I'm letting my hopes stay high for Doom 4.
