I think the 7850 will be the ideal replacement for my 5750.

For the amount of performance you get it runs really cool. Price is a tad higher than what I aim for ($200) but for the performance you get that isn't a bad price.

I think I might even spend a few extra to get a 2GB version if one becomes available.

2GB is the standard, there are no 1GB versions as of yet. Check the chart:

AMD are doing well on the memory front lately, making sure all their cards have enough for any upcoming game at any res/settings possibly used by typical users of each price point.

Once we see what nV is offering in the next couple weeks, we'll be able to make some better decisions.

If nV trounces AMD's level of performance....the prices on the 7000 series will drop substantially.

If nV competes with AMD in a mixed blows scenario, prices will stay the same, card availability will be decent and we can buy whatever suits us best.

If nV fails...then it's not good for anyone. Prices may climb slightly higher or the 8000 series (respin) launch will simply be pushed back to maximize current generation sales.

This is what I hope happens. I'm almost certain I'll be getting the 7870 but want to see what NV brings to the table first.

Just not seeing anything that'd be a logical upgrade for my 5870. There is the 7970, but the price isn't justified for the performance gains over this 5870.

I think, for my own rig, I'm gonna' pass on the 7 series. However, I will use this money saved buy not purchasing a new GPU for other upgrades. nVidia may surprise me with Kepler, offering a power efficient, cool running, incredible performance-for-the-dollar card but I'm not holding my breath. No, I'm thinking my next GPU will be something from AMD's Radeon HD 8k series, or maybe nVidia's GTX700 series. I do like the sound of the GTX 770.

EDIT: I do like the 7800s though. Looking forward to those becomming available. I'm trying to put together a gaming rig for my little sister. Thinking one of these might do just the trick for her.

If the 7900 series doesn't impress you, the 6xx series won't either...

And if you were to get a 7870 card, it's comparable to a 6970, so it'd make sense to keep that and give the 5870 to your sister.

No you're probably right. It'd be best if I kept the 7870 and let her have this 5870. Honestly hadn't thought of that, it's a good idea.

Watch out for the drivers at this point. 7-series is extremely buggy at the moment. Lots of guys having problems, and not just Crossfire users.

I would wait, personally. Sold my 7950s off a few days ago because of all the trouble I was having.
