I have also tried changing card in my notebook, however, the new card is same model (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 5100M) and I have same problems. Maybe there is really really small chance, that both cards have hardware problem, but I guess it is more likely, that it is software-related problem.
Could someone from NVIDIA explain us those error messages with Xid at least, please? Thank you. |

In the meantime, I got 2 total system freezes with the new GT 430. At the 2nd time, the PC apparently fired into my network, disabling other PCs.
No OpenGL, no composite, nothing in the logs. |

I experience similar problems on the computer listed in my signature called "Desktop" on Gentoo Linux. When it happens it's always while starting X on boot up. It happens in approx. every 2nd boot.
When it happens, the computer freezes completely and not even Magic SysRq or the three-finger salute (CTRL+ALT+DEL) helps. Snippet from the kernel log: Code:

Did you get a chance to test 295.17 too?

Assuming you're talking to me:
I haven't tested 295.17 yet, as I mainly have packages the Gentoo devs consider stable on this particular machine. I will however try it, as this problem has increased in frequency lately. EDIT: removed unnecesarry quote.

It's common courtesy to not use a quote if one is answering to the immediate previous poster
![]() Also, it's useful to test the latest beta driver too, the changelog does not cover all the changes, like 295.17 fixed a bug regarding KDE although it does mention it. |

I've been running with 295.17 (and kernel 3.2.2) for a couple of days now without any problems. So far, so good, but it's still a bit too early to say for sure.

Dang! Hit the bug again today. Will try upgrading kernel to 3.2.6 or newer when time allows it. I do however strongly suspect the nvidia kernel module and/or driver is the source of this error.
EDIT: Just noticed the new 295.20 nvidia driver. Will install it immediately and report back at some point. I'll be moving next week, so it might be a while before I report back.

It seems, it is NOT fixed. Just had a total system freeze again. Running kernel 3.2.1 and 295.20.

My problems were probably caused by hardware failure. HP buybacked my old laptop and I currently have laptop with NVIDIA Quadro 1000M and everything works like a charm.

Hit this bug again the other day (while starting X.org during boot).
Nvidia, please fix this, as it's getting pretty annoying.
