IIRC Adobe said they will provide security updates for 5 (?) years for Flash on Linux. But no new features. So its not dead but not much alive either. A kind of a zombie.

BTW the title of the thread is wrong - Adobe's flashborne acceleration/decoding has issues with the recent-ish nvidia drivers for a long time (since it appeared i think).
The blue youtube doods seems to be a recent bug though linked to flash 11.2, but i assume it affects older nvidia drivers too.

And all these acceleration-related issues DO go away if you just right-click on the video and untick "use hardware acceleration". The side effects though, can be tearing video and WILL be higher CPU usage since both decoding and display will be handled exclusively via software.

Thanks, however I don't think this is related to the issue in the first post (temporary system freeze)?

You do realize that [not all of] the people having issues with nvidia drivers are not developers? You seem to have the answer, why not build a beta driver with it and let us test?

Its not about me, its about the many users who have nvidia hardware and they cant even surf the web properly because of adobe/+nvidia bugs. These bugs are very annoying because they affect many users so i would expect something from the developers because they CAN fix these bugs.
Throwing blame to Adobe and such just isnt going to cut it. The issue occurs on nvidia hardware only with their own drivers. So,naturally people expect it from nvidia to provide a fix.

We're not "throwing the blame" to Adobe. It *is* their problem. No "if"s or "but"s about it. Adobe is sending the U/V planes in wrong order.

Oh, and the issue is not limited to nvidia. The open source radeon driver has VDPAU support too, through the Gallium VDPAU state tracker which does decoding with shaders (mpeg2 only for now, further formats in development). They get blue people too.

Being a developer != not being an idiot. You have no business using Linux if you can't follow simple instructions like that. At the very least, go whine at the people writing the buggy software and not the people graciously fixing it for you anyway.
