Ditto ditto.

I'll try with the 290.10 you mention, if the problem is.

But it seems, already is investigating the failure.

I have the same GeForce 8600M GT.

I hope you have a solution soon.

Before I forget.

I have xserver-xorg 1.11.4

CONFIRMED.

It works extremely well with 290.10. Not with 295.xx. But with the 290.10 WORKS FINE.

Must see! But then, it's working great, either from one form to another. So are the current drivers. Not work with the 295.

However, with the xserver-xorg 1.11.4.

YOU SAID: NO FAULT. WHAT WE SAY NO FAULT.

There's no need to confirm this bug - it's known and NVIDIA is working on it. No fix ETA though. If you cannot live without text consoles, downgrade to drivers 290.10 - they work perfectly in this regard.

@artem, actually I can not downgrade to 290. Guess why ? Dependencies... I would have to downgrade whole system, including xorg-server and the kernel.

All you need to downgrade is xorg-server and xf86-input-*. That's two or three packages.

You only need to downgrade X.org server.

I'm running 290.10 under Linux 3.3.1 without any hassle.

Nope, it is not possible. I can not. I haven't got these packages in my /var/cache/pacman/pkg anymore.

That doesn't mean these packages have disappeared from the face of the Earth. You use Arch, you're for sure aware that it has an excellent wiki. Make use of that.

Same problem here. There seems to be a problem switching back to text mode or either saving or restoring the text mode settings.

I can add the following:

The problem doesn't seem to be immediate, but it happens pretty soon.

I tried launching the X server by just typing X on a console (no desktop or window manager at all). After launching, I could switch to text mode immediately, but after several tries the monitor went into power saving mode instead of text mode. Switching back to X with Alt+F7 recovered the screen. Typing blindly while in the console works, which means the system is not hung.

In my case, when starting a KDE session and trying to switch to a text terminal after it has loaded, the problem is immediate.

Edited to add: The above applies to 295.33 by the way.

260.19.36 worked but I am unable to run it any longer as I have just upgraded my distro.
