That's the whole idea.

Just got around to firing this up last night. It's not too shabby. I think I'll definitely get bored of it but what's really nice is since it's free to play you can it other friends involved who normally wouldn't have the game. I'm not even sure if FSX had multiplayer because I don't know anyone else who has it, but we were able to play Flight last night in MP.

The one big thing that I like about F2P games is anyone can join in on the fun without having to buy the game first. If they end up liking the game and want to continue playing it then they can spend money whenever they want. A lot of times we'll just want to try a game one night and it's hardly worth it for 3 or 4 people to pay full price for a game that they'll only use once.

I do agree that the prices do seem a bit high. It looked like a single plane was going to run about $7. What they really should do is just take a full game worth of content, divide out all of the parts like planes, maps, addons extra so that they total to the cost of a full game. Then take whatever the calcuated cost was and add an extra 20 - 50% on to that. So if a plane was going to be worth about $3 in the retail game, it could be sold for say $4. For the people that want everything they'll only be paying a bit more than normal, but for everyone else the prices are much more enticing. They could also just just sell the complete pack for normal retail price for those who want everything, then sell other smaller packages with slight premiums on them. Maybe they'll get to that point but it's hard to say. I know that some people to are hooked on F2P spend a lot more money than what a regular game costs.

Downloading it now. Have always loved the FS series. Not expecting to like this as it's so laid back and for the more common user but I'll give it a go.

I played a few tutorials and thought it was kinda neat. Controls pretty well with mouse and keyboard. I haven't really been back to it though. Seems like there is so much content locked out in the free version.

I've not been watching to close but seems a good portion of the flight sim community is moving from FSX not to Flight but Prepar3D, which is the old FSX code that Lockheed Martin bought to continue development as a professional simulation engine. LM has been cleaning up the code and adding new features, so it seems things like stuttering are gone and performance is up, plus most all of the FSX addons such as aircraft and scenery go in with little effort. Doesn't look as though Flight is being embraced by the FS community at all.

Apparently you can get the student version for $50 since they don't ask for student ID or any such thing. Some have speculated the "student" version is aimed at comsumers.

Considering a single aircraft add-on with all aircraft systems fully modeled runs about $50, even $200 for the platform isn't out of line, as slawter was saying. I probably have $1500 in add-ons, but I was buying anything notable since the release of FSX.

I know I lost interest in the FS community partly after beta testing for Orbx and seeing what Orbx was actually about. JV isn't a nice guy like he pretends to be on the forums. The final straw was went SOH banned me for sharing my opinion about the "pay to play" direction they were taking their site. They accused me of being a "freeloader" for my comment, despite me pumping $1500 into the community. After that I was done buying add ons.

Yeah, Orbx may have some nice stuff the I'll never buy any cause of how bad they treat us the consumer. I just use all their freeware.

Trying to decide if I want to buy Ideal Flight 10 or not.
