I would LOVE to be surprised but I simply do not see it happening.

Until I see some type of concrete evidence that Crytek has learned their lesson and are going to be offering a polished proper PC release on day 1, I refuse to make the same mistake I made with Crysis 2 and preorder.

Even if they say they will have all these features on release, I still don't know if I can trust Cervet after all the lies he's told us in the past.
well they just released cryengine 3.4 with native dx11 support so at least those features will be in crysis 3 from day 1.

It is no surprise that Crysis 3 will be marketed via the console market. What did you expect after Crysis 2... A PC exclusive ?

I can't say im too thrilled about Crysis 3, I might get a little more excited when Crytek announce a next gen console release of a Crysis game but im certainly not going to slurp over a game optimised for 7 yeard old hardware.

I expect nothing more from Crysis 3 (or should I say, Crysis 2.5) but Cervet has confirmed on twitter that PC version will have DX11 and all the bells and whistles on release date.

Since this isn't a big leap in terms of content like Crysis 2 was vs Crysis 1, I feel like I can actually believe the man (for once) but that doesn't mean I'm going to make the same mistake I made last year and pre-order Crysis 3. I'm not. I'm going to wait and see if they actually deliver on their word or if we get the same dumbed down console garbage we got last time with PC exclusive features "coming soon".

It's called Ryse and it's been in the works for a while now.

And honestly, although we had to wait for proper DX11 features, once we had that and the texture pack (even better with MaldoHD's textures) Crysis 2 is easily on par with Battlefield 3's visuals and better in some regards (individually tesselated bricks, tiles, debris etc) and no annoying "dirty goggles" bullcrap on the screen

also I just read this

Quote:
Crytek:

...Including render features that "shouldn't theoretically work on consoles".

German developer Crytek has DirectX 11 graphics running on Crysis 3 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The PC version of the sci-fi shooter sequel, due out spring 2012, will build upon the stunning Crysis 2 DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade, but the programmer wizards at Crytek aim to get at least some of this running on the console version of the game.

"We want to make sure as much as is humanly possible can translate from a DX11 variant into a DX9 variant, that will work almost as good on an Xbox console to whatever extent we can, because we don't want the experience to be different between the platforms," Rasmus Højengaard, director of creative development at Crytek, told Eurogamer.

"It is very, very difficult, but it is possible. It just requires a lot of effort. Some of the stuff these guys are making work on consoles now is absolutely amazing. It's render features that shouldn't theoretically work on consoles, but they've managed to construct code that can emulate a similar thing from a… hack and slash sounds wrong, but they don't have the same streamlined pipeline you would have with a DX11 structure, but they can get to a similar result just by experimenting and using tips and tricks."

Højengaard provided a concrete example of this: parallax occlusion mapping, while pointing out that it was not a feature confirmed to be in the console version of Crysis 3.

"I'm not saying this will be in the game, but they managed to make parallax occlusion mapping work, which is an advanced form of bump mapping where you get silhouettes as well, and you have self-shadowing even though you have absolutely no polygons," he explained.

"That's a very advanced feature, and it shouldn't theoretically run on a 360, but they made it run on a 360."

Højengaard insisted, however, that Crytek will not include DX11 graphics features on console if they impact performance. "What it all boils down to is to what extent they're able to use this without choking the console," he said.

Crytek hopes Crysis 3, which has been in development for just over a year, will prove to be a visual showcase, an example of what is possible on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the end of their lifecycles.

"It's always interesting to push stuff when the perception is you can't push it anymore," Højengaard said. "That's definitely something we're doing." The development team is benefiting, in this regard, from a particularly efficient production - one boosted by the "stable" CryEngine 3 and developers who are finally getting to grips with the Crysis franchise. The end result is a quicker turnaround than with previous Crytek games.

"We can just be very efficient about the production because we have a stable technology path and we're not developing a new engine," he said. "And we have people who really know what they want to do with the game, which means we can get something out somewhat quicker than we could with Crysis 2, which had new engine development, and Crysis 1, which was new IP. As soon as you have to invent something it always takes longer than if you know what you're doing.

"We're obviously hoping it will be one of these pillars where we can go, that was what you can do."

This scares me honestly for the console guys because I've seen crysis 2 on the 360 and it was a laggy, non HD mess and to add stuff, you have to take other things away.. what are they going to take away from crysis 3 to get these new whiz bang features? another 10 fps? Crytek aiming for that 20 fps experience eh

I guess we'll wait and see but this simply is more of the snake oil rhetoric that crytek are masters at spewing.

It's not just the visuals im talking about. One of the things i liked about Crysis 1 was the sandbox gameplay. Crysis 2 was just too linear and gave it that 'been there done that ' feel to the game. I put the linearity of Crysis 2 and the way Crytek optimised not just the visuals but the gameplay down to consoles. Another words, Crytek knew it would be impossible to create an improvement on Crysis 1 PC if they were to go multiplatform, an improvemet in making the game more open than Crysis 1...instead they go backwards and turn it into a rail shooter...

yeah I agree that the big expansive set piece fighing zones like crysis 1 had were more enjoyable but the thing is, crytek ported crysis 1 to the consoles just fine so they're MORE than able to render the larger more expansive environments that we got in Crysis 1. I'm just wondering if the extra amounts of detail that they packed into the level design of crysis 2 (there was a lot more going on in virtually every aspect) and the huge expansive environments weren't possible for the consoles?

You know I've really enjoyed the Crysis games. I was really let down with how Crytek handled Crysis 2 on the PC, but after all the updates and patches I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I'm not gonna' pre-order but I anticipate I'll really enjoy Crysis 3 as well.

Crysis - PC Exclusive: 3 million units sold

Crysis 2 - Multi-Platform: 3 million units sold

Unless they move away from the corridor shooter feel of Crysis 2 I'd bet Crysis 3 sells less than either of the first 2 games. I know I'm not buying it if there's no improvement.
