never played bf1942, but its going to have to put up a fight against ut2k3. ut2k3 already has the set ut community, and is growing every day. its already tremendously large as it is, and its only been the first week.

Should be an awesome game. The media blackout is a bit tiring.
i should have said, extensive patching i don't think the game will be ready by the end of this year, although they might ship it anyway, but we'll see.

My personal game of the year: Morrowind

Likely to be consensus games of the year: UT2003 and/or NOLF 2

I have NOLF 2 obviously and I LOVE it, but its damn hard to get used to not having any normal weapons in the first few levels.

UT2003 = derivative game, great graphics, poor sound (bad announcer)
NOLF2=great game, great graphics, great sound.

NOLF2 wins. Flawless victory.

I love them both. Ones just a hell of a system hog.

I am a single player guy, but UTs team modes always held a lot of appeal to me.

I agree, the announcer sucks so bad. He can be alright at first, and in certain things he says, but for the most part, it's horrible. That is why I went ahead and ripped all the female announcer voices I could get from the old build of the game that was leaked a while back. It's great, pretty much all the commonly used voices for the team games are female, as well as a few others.

Very refreshing to hear her replace most of the important sounds, and then the male announcer to fill in the rest. Only one drawback. For some reason, Epic had the game validate even the sound packages online, so you can't use this modified female announcer pack unless the server has it also, but single player or instant action works fine. Online, you get a mismatch. A real let down, cause I love the female announcer...

Hmm, yeah, I see what you mean. This time around I guess they wanted it to be more dramatic. Unfortunately, it was a little overdone. It would be nice to have a few choices on the announcers. Male, Female, and Alien perhaps? Something flexible, that way you could mix it up a little..
