Now that sync-to-vblank is on by default in 302.07, what advantage or disadvantage does this setting have relative to video performance. I know that glxgears report an fps that approximates the vertical refresh rate rather than the impressive numbers over 10 times that when the setting is disabled. What is the practical effect of all this? Thanks for your insights.

The practical effect is you won't see tearing by default.

Got it, thanks! I never saw tearing on my system, but I guess I'll go with the new default anyway.

Thanks! I've tried the setting both ways and haven't seen tearing either way. But then, I'm not a gamer. I guess that I'll go with the default.
