Apparently the gnex will be the first phone to support Wifi Display, I guess that is one of the reasons google picked the OMAP4; it can do the full encoding in real-time with apparently low enough latency that games are playable, in addition to supporting wifi direct.

If the GPU's in phones became powerful enough, theoretically they could replace consoles, as the phone itself would serve as a "controller" not only with the touch screen but the gyroscope and all of that as controls. The only thing it would be missing is tactile feedback, but there are a few companies out there already working on that for blind people.

That's why I mentioned the development of tactile feedback, it would pretty much solve that problem.

You just mad because iphone doesn't support wifi direct, and therefore doesn't support this standard.
