Doesn't look very interesting to me after having an ipad2 and a Touchpad in the house. I agree that a 10" screen is preferable.

I pre-ordered one yesterday. I have the Kindle 2 and it is by far the best e-reader I have seen. The Fire is going to be great for what it is. I agree the IPAD 3 will be awesome and may get one when it comes out, but the seven inch IPS LCD screen and all the great apps makes me suspect this will be a winner. Moreover, it is barely bigger then a Droid phone and movies will look sweet. I wonder if somebody will enable Netflix streaming on it. Amazon prime is great, but Netflix would help fill in the gaps. Only downside I see is the lack of expanded memory....C'est la vie.

Just loaded CM9 (Android 4.04) onto my Kindle Fire. It works great. It's fast and it looks good. It's still kind of a testing phase, so if you go for it, expect to have problems. The main problems I have so far are:
Besides that, the gaming on it works great and it has access to Google Play (the market). It took me about 15 minutes to get CM9 loaded up and working. Here's a quick rundown:
Here's a video of it running: EDIT: that's not my video btw, I'd never put that music that loud over top like that... EDIT 2: See new problems above |

Use AOKP, works WAY better.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23717-rom...r-kindle-fire/ File transfer works, notification bar error fixed, and Netflix works. So far, so good. ![]() |

hey i was thinking about doing this with my kindle fire. I mostly just want the google app store, but it looks like you have to root for it. The kindle fire utility installs a permanent root. This voids the warranty correct? Is there a way to remove the permanent root and have it become like you bought it or can you only temporarily unroot it from then on?

Technically the kindle fire isn't an android tablet. Although it uses the AOSP code and all of that, it's modified to the point where it falls outside of the requirements that google has outlined to be able to legally use the name "Android" because it breaks compatibility with many things. For this reason, you'll notice that Amazon doesn't mention the name android anywhere on the product itself nor on any advertisements.
