I cannot confirm. I just changed a setting (GL V-Sync), restarted, and it was applied without me starting nvidia-settings.

GL V-Sync is default. Change Digital Vibrance, give it an extreme value so you'll easily notice the difference.

OK, digital vibrance is not restored. GL V-Sync *is* applied. And I don't mean "enabled". I mean my setting is applied. If I disable it, it stays disabled on restart. If I enable it, it stays enabled.

I will try to submit a patch for this on Gentoo so that it puts a file in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/ that runs nvidia-settings. I think NVidia's installer should do the same (that's what that directory is there for, to place stuff to run at startup.) It's not nice to not be user friendly.

Btw, I suppose that this thread can be considered "solved" now, unless the fact that Xv VSync is not enabled by default but needs "nvidia-settings -l" can be considered a bug.

It isn't solved, I get tearing no matter what I do with nvidia-settings. And it's quite distracting. Of course this is on a laptop that any minute now I'm going to throw out the window , but still. Something's not right with xv.

Oops, you are right. It now started to not work again. Tearing is back.

It seems it is random. Changing the checkbox in the settings doesn't always work.

Hi all.

I also have tearing. I'm on a Linux Mint 12 LMDE, 64-bits version with a Nvidia GT240.
I recently installed this beta driver in order to get portrait in my secondary monitor with Twinview enabled. This works great.
The problem is that I have tearing on my main monitor. It's a general issue as it doesn't only affect XVideo, but also anything on this main monitor. Any window I move there presents tearing. The thing is that the secondary monitor doesn't have tearing.

I have OpenGL-Sync to VBlank and XVideo sync to vblank enabled, the latter synched to my main monitor by selecting the radiobutton "Sync to this display device". Of course I tried inverting this selection, but nothing there. Weird...

I have Compiz enabled, by the way, but if I go with metacity I still have tearing.

Try disabling the composite extension is xorg.conf to get rid of tearing.

Do you mean:

Code:
Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
If yes, I just tried that and now KDE doesn't provide any desktop compositing. This is definitely not an option.

We believe Xv sync to VBlank should be fixed in the next 302 release.

Yep, it's fixed. I updated my desktop (GTS450) today. While I usually use VDPAU on this thing, I switched to Xv just to test. 302.07 had really horrible tearing, 302.11 works fine.
