I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop that has a GeForce 8400M GS card. In Ubuntu 12.04, Unity 3D performance is sluggish. Resizing windows takes seconds after you release the mouse. Scrolling or pasting text into a GVim (a text editor) is slow. Things are much snappier in Unity 2D. Upgrading to driver version 295.49 from 295.40 helped a bit, I think, but it is still unpleasant.
I have attached the nvidia-bug-report.log file. Please let me know if I can provide any more information. Thank you. |

I tried using only Unity 2D for several days with 295.49, but still it is too sluggish. I can see high CPU usage when switching between virtual desktops, for example.
I changed to the nouveau driver and everything is very smooth now. CPU usage is way down. I'd like to use the nVidia drivers for the 3D support.. ![]() |
