EDIT: I am really curious to see how well this sells. It seems MS has convinced themselves Metro-style UI's are the future.

Same thing with Apple convinced themselves iOS style UI's are the future.

We will see how well Mountain Lion will sell when it released.

I'm really surprised that Apple hasn't overhauled the OS to be more like iOS. Yeah Lion has Launchpad that lays out your apps like iOS, but I'm shocked that they haven't made this the main screen like Metro. Hope that made sense lol.

Maybe with WWDC coming around the corner, we will see more stuff like iOS taking over the "Desktop" style of OS X.

Apple's idea is not to make the Mac a touch screen device, but to use gestures on their trackpads. The Apple trackpad is the best there is, it's larger, smoother and handles a lot of different kinds of input, while maintaining that familiar use for those who just want to point and click.

Microsoft is going to the extreme with Metro, putting the same UI on tablets as the PC. I just installed this newest release in a VM. It looks good and is smoother but I really hate it, lol. I prefer the Windows 7 Start Menu over these hot corners they have.

No corp is going to go with this. Windows 7 is the new XP. They're going to be supporting this OS for 10+ years with extensions like XP.

My copy of VMWare Fusion is acting really stupid with this new release of Win8; it's acting like there are no hard drives available to install it on. No one else seems to have this issue either lol. Guess I'll try to mess with it when I get some time this weekend.

I bet you're right. I would also bet metro will be viewed as nothing short of a gift to Apple straight from MS.

I have no issues at all with 7, gave up on linux completely, and love iOS. I'm already considering an ipad and a macbook pro as my next PC replacement.

Whichever way I go though, 8 will not be my primary OS on any computer I personally own.

I honestly don't understand the hate on Metro. By the time Windows 8 comes out officially, someone will find a way to disable Metro (or work around it) and we will move on with our digital lives.

My big thing is that you can still get to the Desktop and use it like a normal PC. Yes, Metro gets in the way a little but you can move around it pretty easily. And besides Metro, isn't Windows 8 just Windows 7 with some performance improvements? Who doesn't want that? I know I do! (Yes Windows 7 works just fine performance wise, but would it be a bad thing for it to perform even better?)

I'm welcoming Windows 8 personally; I'm a sucker for new OSs but I'm also very interested in how it will fit into the business side with my clients. I'll have Windows 8 installed the day it releases at work and in my VMs for sure.

Nekro and slaWter - OS X will eventually evolve into something else in the next year or two; I mean, we are at 10.8 this year already. Will the Mac side evolve to more iOS-like style OS? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they did.

I guess we will all have to go to Ubuntu . . . .

Thats not good either, i took my laptop to work with windows 8, let 40-50 people in various departments(IT, sales, production, customer service, quality, etc...) play with it

out of all those people 1 person liked it.

lets say 50% (more likelly 70-90%) of people will dislike Metro and will find a way to disable, install 3rd party tool to bring back start menu, fine.

MS will use that statistics to their advantage, saying windows 8 and metro is giant success because _____ number of people have it installed, while in fact more then half of those people will have it disabled somehow.

Metro simply does not belong on desktop, laptops, business, anyone that care about productivity, its fine on tablets and for people that like giant squares.

This OS should never be released on desktop PCs.

i think microsoft removed all code to get the start menu back in this release
