GeFORCE 8800GT
So now the 290 driver has disappeared from portage (I'm a Gentoo user). !!! What am I supposed to do now? I do appreciate the nvidia guys are working on it, but this is biting some people in the ass right now. Some people NEED the console, especially when working with buggy apps and you need to drop to a console to kill some processes because the desktop is not responding. I also like to drop to console and kill X, and save some RAM so I can compile RAM intensive apps. (Libreoffice Wine etc) It is also EXTREMELY handy having the kernel log (dmesg) on F12. Any chance you guys could put 290 back into the Gentoo portage tree? |

There are two annoyances with them though: they don't compile under Linux 3.4 or newer and they don't support X.org server 1.10. Patches to compile them against Linux 3.4 can be found on this forum, as for X.org server you have to run it with Option "IgnoreABI" "true". |

With xorg-server 1.12 and kernel-pae 3.4 i've found them to be unstable (freeze) at least on 9400gt
