Default Re: Xorg server crash in nvidia 295.20.

I tried for the past two days the following configuration

- gentoo-kernel 3.2.14/3.4.0
- xorg-server 1.12.2
- nvidia-drivers 302.17

and i got:

- no text console on any tty, with the "nomodeset" option in kernel line I could switch to console a couple of times then the only thing I got was a black screen
- 3 X11 crashes
- 1 system freeze, with kernel still responsive, I could reboot with ALT+Stamp+B
- 1 hard freeze, rebooted manually.

so I reverted back to:
- gentoo-kernel 3.2.14
- xorg-server 1.11.4
- nvidia-drivers 290.10

For me the 290.10 remains the last stable release.
My system is a 32bit Gentoo on Intel Corei5 with an ASUS NVIDIA GTS 250 (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce GTS 250] (rev a2))

It sucks to say that, but 290.10 drivers remain the last stable release for way too many people (including me).

Confirmed same symptoms as 295 with beta 304.22 using Fedora 17 and graphics card:

During failure machine can still be accessed via LAN with ssh and "top" shows Xorg spinning one CPU core at near 100% utilisation:

Here's something weird:

I found myself getting Xorg crashes if I had previously run "killall gnome-panel" earlier in my session.

I'd just be typing away and then boom -- logged out.

I cannot confirm that. Got two X crashes with 304.37 out of the blue and went back to 295.71 for that reason (with GeForce 8400M GS, X.Org X Server 1.5.2).

Thumbs up Re: Xorg server crash in nvidia 295.20.

Hey, this version 304.37 seems to fix the crash-X problem for me too :
No crashes whole day while watching video/browsing/ etc.

Debian testing with kernel 3.5.1
xorg 1:7.7+1 X.Org X Window System
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.12.3-1 Xorg X server - core server
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G84 [GeForce 8400 GS] (rev a1)

Keep fingers crossed.

Thanks NVidia

Johan

The version 304.37 seems to work fine for now.

Tested for a week on a Gentoo 32bit with:

- video card GTS250 1G RAM
- Kernel gentoo 3.3.8
- xorg server 1.12.2

For now no crashes, no freezes and working tty console.
