Hi everyone,
on Debian (Sid) amd64 with a GTS250 and kernel 3.3.1 I am experiencing total system freezes (system unreacheable even over ssh) with any driver version since 290.10 (last working version). Freezes happen at random, not correlated to system load or use of a particular application. Attached is the output of nvidia-bug-report.sh from a clean session with 295.33 since I cannot launch it when the system is locked-up. Until now I considered this an annoying thing, but with the release of 295.40 not being able to upgrade has become a security problem too. Thank you for your attention. |

Ditto of ditto. It keeps on failing, keeps on giving problems, puts itself in black the TTY's. Not at all, not at all.
![]() I have the kernel 3.3.1. The same. But it does not compile correctly 290.10. Route will be necessary to do it script instead of doing it to hair. ![]() |

No more total system freeze with 295.40 and kernel 3.3.2 so far (three days). Still having X crashes though, but that's another story.

Same problem here, random system freezes with 3.3.4 and nvidia 295.40 and 302.07. Nouveau seems to work properly (or at least it never froze during the limited time i have been trying it). Chromium/firefox seems to be good contributors: most of the freezes are happening right after switching to a desktop containing them or while using them. Heavy 3D load seems stable (unigine heaven never crashed so far.)
Freeze is total, no logs anywhere. If there is any way I can help solving this, please let me know i'm well willing to help! |

I suffer from the same problem with a GeForce 9800 GT on Debian GNU/Linux. I have the problem with several 295.x driver versions and currently with version 302.17. I downgraded to version 290.10, which worked flawlessly for weeks. The Nouveau driver works without crashes, too.

I had similar problems with the 295 line - until 295.59 which seems to be OK. Using 295.59 on my machine - suspend/restore and switch to VT and back to X now work and don't hard-freeze my machine. These problems occured in 295.20 to 295.40, I never tried 295.49 or 295.53.

With version 304.32 the problem persists. I am seeing many crashes that bring me back to the log-in screen and the log contains
... kernel: [15053.553694] NVRM: Xid (0000:02:00): 6, PE0001 ... kdm[2639]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly Sometimes the system freezes completely and I have to force a shutdown by pressing the power button. The log is empty in these cases. |
