No xrandr events without the help from xrandr --prop

Hi,

I try to detect xrandr events when a monitor gets detached and attached again. Currently I use this script (you have to apply this patch before using) and srandrd for tests. Both show the same behavior. The corresponding events only show up, if I use "xrandr --prop" in a second terminal after every action. I can't believe that it should be like this. The events are useless this way, I could better do polling if this is really necessary.
What could be the problem?

I have tried with nvidia 304.60 and 310.14 without success. I use Ubuntu 12.04. What more informations are relevant?
