Hey folks, I finally jumped on the smart phone bandwagon. I just got a basic Android phone. Is there any apps that a must have for my phone?

LOL, I just got a LG Lucid. It was cheap. I will get a better phone next time.

Hey guys, I just found an app caller "Advanced Task Killer" it has really made a huge difference on my battery life.

It will eventually cause more problems than it solves. Memory and task management on Android is VERY tricky. Battery life for active users is poor across the board. (Same with iPhones to a certain extent). I always recommend extended batteries and custom ROMs (debloated / AOSP / AOKP) over task killers.

Advanced Task Killer was useful until Gingerbread, but like Q said, since ICS, it's not only useless, but can actually cause some problems.
If you hold the Home button for a few seconds, it will show you all the apps that are running and you can kill them manually by swiping.
