Default Re: 2gb or 4gb gtx 770?

As far as graphics card makers go I'm completly agnostic, I've been promised an R9 290 for xmas (already have an MK-26 cooler for it).
lowest price 770 here 274
lowest price R9 290 295

I'll be keeping my monitor for a while, 1080p would be a big downgrade and I'm not sure I'd like a monitor with just 1 native resolution since I play games from 8bit to the present.

Also, they are DIRT cheap http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr..._dmd=1&_ipg=25
There isnt really a modern monitor on the market yet that I'd swap it for (for under 3300...)

But if there was a sony FW900 nearby maybe since games are made for a widescreen.

I look at your price difference, if you didn't already have the gpu cooler for it, I'd be pushing for asking for the gtx 770. 25 pounds or euro's would make a difference in terms of quality. Yes, the r9 290 is fast. The problem that amd is getting shown is that they sent out different review models to reviewers vs. the retail product. Also, the regular clock speed for that card is 663mhz with a gpu boost going up to 947mhz. Another problem being shown is the gpu boost clock variance in different brands. Meaning none of them are peaking or staying near the 947mhz promised. I understand the monitor bit, LaCie is the cadillac of pc products they sell.

I've read that also, but I've also read articles that contradict the cherry picking theory. Throttling issues are due to the poor cooler, Something I wont need to worry about.

here's some good for you XDanger if the cooler you bought doesn't work out. R9 290's are getting the custom cooler treatment late dec.-early jan. before r9 290x's.

Hopefully the stock cooler cards will be hard to shift so I can get a good price on one.

XDanger, I am guessing your from the UK based on your pricing. This site i am showing you is a uk based gaming site I visit every day. They are showing pics of the r9 290x (I know you are looking for the non-x, just giving you a taste of things to come) with non-reference coolers. I get your message, the price premium on non-reference will keep reference cooled cards down in price. Just make sure you get a card that has a moddable warranty on it meaning you can add the 3rd party cooler and not void the warranty. Some brands do allow that. Not sure which ones do on the amd or nviida front. Two things I can't do (not by talent, but by choice) is mod my hardware for better efficency and overclocking. The only way I would overclock would be with intel cpu's where I would buy a overclocking performance warranty sold by intel through retailers that allows overclocking damage to be warrantied by intel.

here's the site:

here's another non-reference 290x, msi version. I know it's not 290.

I got some cheap ass brand r9 290, I didnt know DP can be converted much easier/cheaper to VGA than DVI-D (hopefully this is the case)

The only thing now is what kind of picture am I going to get? I remember a driver with scaled resolutions as they seemed to have forgotten about CRT users, I hope that isnt the case with this thing... seeing as theres no analogue output from an r9 290.

AGP!

You crack me up wheeljack

You make a thread in May saying you bought a 770
You make a thread in October saying that you bought another 770 thanks to price drops
You make yet another thread in November... asking which 770 to buy

Default Re: 2gb or 4gb gtx 770?

XDanger, I apologize. I forgot you are using a CRT. JCrox, let me explain. In may, I did buy a gtx 770 back in may. What happened was that the gtx 770 I bought (the MSI gaming) wouldn't post with my system at the time (the ivb cpu and mb my bro has). Sold it to a friend since I couldn't use it. Found out the card worked and it was a mb issue with pci-e compatibility. In Nov, I bought the zotac gtx 770 amp because it was on a black friday sale and it did work with my ivb and haswell setups. The thread I created for which gtx 770 to buy was when the gtx 770's were 1st announced back in late spring early summer 2013 when they 1st came out, not in nov 2013. I may have edited or added to the thread in nov. though. and if you are keeping track, I traded off my zotac gtx 770 for my two gtx 760's recently that I bought after the msi gtx 770 didn't work back in the summer. BTW, did a mb flash to fix the pci-e compatibility before buying anything else. Had to go with intel hd 4000 graphics for a couple of weeks before buying the gtx 760's back in the summer.
