Exclamation Mandrake 9.2 + NVDriver + Solution

I had the following Problem:
SLOW GL, console did not word in "twin fiew" modus (with "TV" as monitor)

here is my solution:

1.) download the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run (archive)
2.) uninstall the current Driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run
3.) install the kernel-source files
4.) install the 4363 driver, when it asks to recompile some kernel files, do it!
5.) restart

results:
glx is fast...
3143 frames in 5.0 seconds = 628.600 FPS
3797 frames in 5.0 seconds = 759.400 FPS
3955 frames in 5.0 seconds = 791.000 FPS

twin view works with "TV"...

just to inform you...
Greetings

Which kernel-source files did you install?? kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk or
kernel-source-2.4.22-21mdk.

I really want to use the 4363 driver again as under mdk9.1 I had fantastic graphics results + I didnt have this weird problem with the GPU fan speeding up to a very noisy rate, as it does with mdk9.2 and the 5328 drivers.

Thanks

Hello Craig,
actually I use the kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk, and as I see there's no GPU Fan problem...

Hello nybey,

you find out your kernel version by typing
# uname -r
the result shoul be something like:
2.4.22-10mdk
get your kernel-source file (the same like your kernel... ;-) ) and install it like all the ohter software (should be availabile on your CDs, or in the web)
(for me it was kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk)

then switch to runlevel 3 and unsintall the nvidia drivers (also the 4363 ones)
# init 3
# nvidia-installer --uninstall

when it's compleated reinstall the 4363 drivers, you'll be told that there's a kernel module to be recompiled -> that's ok!

after that all should work!
you have the possibility to update the driver (nividia-installer --update) but
DON'T do this, or you' ll have to start again!

I hope I can help!
Greetings, Sarco

Thank you for your help!!!

These my glxgears results:

1968 frames in 5.0 seconds = 393.600 FPS
1969 frames in 5.0 seconds = 393.800 FPS
1968 frames in 5.0 seconds = 393.600 FPS

Problem solved!!

Question Mandrake 9.2 GeForce driver problems

Hi,
I've tried all the solutions in this forum, but none of them have got me any joy .

I run Mandrake 9.2, have an GeForce4 4200 card and an Athlon 2000+ CPU. If I try installing the 5328 drivers, they appear to work fine, but all 3D apps run very slow (glxgears gives 6.2fps). (I've updated my XF86Config-4 file as requested).
I also tried uninstalling the 5328 drivers and installing the 4363 ones as suggested by Sarco. I installed my kernel-source.rpm, but the 4363 install routine gave me the following error:

unable to find kernel module 'nvidia.o'. This is most likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong header files.

I tried running the install again with --kernel-include-path /usr/src/linux-x.x.x/include/
but it still didn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

As I've seen the 5328 drivers don`t work with Mandrake9.2, but the 4363 work good.

There are some Possibilities:
- You used a wrong kernel-source (wrong version use # uname -r like described above)
- Did you uninstall the 5328? (nvidia-installer --uninstall)
- The 4363 tries to compile a Kernel module, have a look at the install process - there should be a message that the kernel module is compiled - I think that's the missing 'nvidia.o'.
- normally as root you should not have to set any path, I just installed the kernel-sources.rpm from the CD and the were found.

which kernel do you use?

Greetings Sarco
