Default Exiting to command prompt

I'm trying to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run on Redhat 9. It's my first time using Linux so I can't figure out how to exit Gnome to be able to install it.
This is the error I get:

ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
installing. For further details, please see the section INSTALLING
THE NVIDIA DRIVER in the README available on the Linux driver
download page at www.nvidia.com.

I'm running a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra from PNY. I haven't installed anything other than the complete install from the Redhat 9 Disks. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Default

Open a terminal window, log in as root and enter:
init 3

That'll stop X, and drop you to the login prompt.

To get X back, either as root, type in:
init 5

... or as user, type in:
startx
