Default Im new to linux so help me out

Ok i have the video card drivers downloaded 5328 ok. So when i install them it tells me that xserver is still on or something how do i take that off so i can put the drivers in then it tells me it could not find the kernel for nvidia what do i do
ok i know you have to type init 3 to get to take off x server but how do you get back to the gui
