Unhappy 3D Hardware Acceleration on Fedora Core 1

Hi,
I've got a GeForce 4 Ti4200 and I just installed Fedora Core 1, upgraded to kernel 2.4.22-1.2140.nptl.
I've installed the last nvidia driver using nvidia-installer, and everything works fine, no warning or error messages in XFree86 log.

My problem is I can't get the acceleration running :

glxgears => 26 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5.200 FPS
31 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6.200 FPS
32 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6.400 FPS
31 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6.200 FPS
Here's my glxinfo output :

Seems to use nvidia drivers :-/ . I've tried tuxracer & Wolfenstein ET too, same prob. For the XFree86-Mesa-GL prob, I was already aware of it so I erased that packages files without removing the package to avoid dependencies problems with apt/yum.

Anyway, the glxinfo seems to show that the GL libraries used are real nvidia's.
glxinfo | grep -i nvidia =>

server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL version string: 1.4.1 NVIDIA 53.28

what's more, glxgears seems to be linked with the correct files :
ldd /usr/X11R6/bin/glxgears =>
libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib/tls/libGL.so.1 (0x0073c000)

Any idea ?

Could somebody help ?

Thanks a lot.

You should be able to edit your post afterwards. See this thread for possible fix, he crossed linked your thread as well. Note that johnnyreb has acceleration working when running as root (by su in the same X server, not logged in as root from the welcome screen). Please try this and post results.

okay, i had the same problem with a TI4400 and fedora - and finally found an answer - check this out:
http://linuxquestions.org/questions/history/135687
dont bother with the first few posts, but do scope out the last one which states:
"try deleting (or renaming to be safe) the .so files in /usr/X11R6/lib/tls and see if that helps."
DO THAT!!!! it worked wonders for me. youll need root priveledges in order to delete or rename - and by rename it just means do something to change the title - nothing significant; IE just add ".blabla" to the end or something, just so they are no longer recognized. you should see mondo difference!
(i hope)
good luck!!
