I have a nVidia GeForce Ti 4800 8x AGP. My system is a newly installed Slackware 9.1.
After I installed the nvidia driver, X crached on startup. I then changed the speed of the AGP from 8x to 4x in the BIOS, and everything worked just fine. How do I fix this? /Per |

The default behavior of the drivers is to use AGPGART from the kernel as the driver for AGP, but on many systems this does not work as well as the nVidia AGP module. Try using this option in the XF86Config, under the device section (where the driver "nvidia" is specified).
Section "Device" Driver "nvidia" Option "NvAGP" "1" |

Also if I'm not mistaken, AGP 8x is only supported in the 2.6 kernel. Slackware 9.1 uses 2.4 doesn't it? Upgrading your kernel might help.

Oh really? You sure it isn't a SuSe thing then? I was totally sure that AGP 8x wasn't supported (Or atleast well supported) in 2.4 kernels.

Your right that agp x8 was not supported well due to the lack of agp 3.0 in versions of the 2.4, SuSE could well have backported it.

Yeah thats what I thought. So per, you could always try to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel if you want to use AGP 8x.

The suggestion from LordMorgul about adding the NvAGP option worked! Thanks!
