Default nv 5336 / linux 2.6.3 / unable to switch to console

Hi there!

I'm having serious problems since I'm using 2.6.3 with the latest NVidia 5336 on Debian unstable ... formerly I've used a 2.6.1 with patched drivers from minion.de ... they've worked fine.

Description of my problem: When using my gui I'm unable to switch back to one of my consoles (CTRL + F1/F2/...) ... well it switches to the console but it only shows the BIOS-Information screen of my VGA-Card (which is shown when I boot up the computer too), the cpu usage of XFree86 increases to 99 percent. Now I'm unable to switch back (my keyboard seems to be locked), I've to kill the xfree86 process by logging in from another pc.

That sucks!

Some information from my logs:

xfree86:

Hi pierrot.le.fou,

I tried a lot during the last days, switching back to 2.4.20 - 26-pre1 / 2.6.0 - 2.6.3, using minion.de patches, using the official packages, etc. - nothing helped.

Conclusion: I'm not sure about this, but could it be that the described problem appeared after the last update - dist-upgrade on debian unstable? Perhaps something changed heavily?

i think it was most likely triggered by my last apt-get dist-upgrade.

could any kind of downgrade help? do you allready know what part of the system causes the problem? has xfree86 been updated during the last days in the unstable tree... ? damn, too many questions.

Perhaps it's a debian specific bug ... I haven't read about this problem anywhere else before.

I had the same problem on stable with 2.6.3 then recompiled the kernel and took out some of the compiled in fonts from VGA text console and that seemed to do the trick.
Currently have [*] VGA 8x8 font[*] VGA 8x16 font [*] Sparc console 8x16 font
compiled in.
