Unhappy nv & mdk10.0: Xserver freezes with blue lines

hello all!

I installed nvidia drivers on my mandrake 10.0 but, after I changed driver nv to nvidia in my XF86Config-4, when I run X (startx) the screen turns black and in the low part of the screen appears some awful blue lines and there's no way to get back. Then I have to reset manually.

here's some information about my sistem:

system: mdk 10.0, kernel 2.6.3-4mdk
video board: nvidia geforce 4 mx440 128mb agp 8x
driver version: nvidia-linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1
mother board: asus p4s800
processor: intel pentium 4 2.66ghz

i could not find out information about my VIDEO BIOS because /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 simply does not exist in my computer

here's my XF86CONFIG-4:

It seems that the NVidia driver does not work with the 2.6 series of kernels.

i got the exact problem and the exact configuration. the IDIOT which posted that the module doesn't support the kernel is completerly wrong. the new drivers are supported by the mdk10 and kernel 2.6.4.

I got the video driver WORKING at first but i encountered problems when i tried to install the Broadcom4401 = bcm4400.o betword driver.

Maybe you have a modules conflciting or something.... Keep looking you might be lucky

Try fiddling with the nvAGP option (I can't remember the exact name, and I'm on dial-up, so I won't download the doc just to look that up), since it seems that what ultimately failed is the initialization of AGP.

ok I added

"NvAGP" "8"

to my XF86Config-4

And now the X server STARTS!!!! I see the NVidia Splash and so on... And the 3d acceleration seems to work since tuxracers appears to be fluid enough...

But:

Where's the configuration menu? I cannot find it... I use mandrake 10.0. Someone can tell me where is it?

The NVidia driver *DOES NOT WORK* with the kernel 2.6 AGPGART. Some ppl have had success if their chipset AGP is supported by the NVidia driver. However, if you want to use kernel 2.6 AGPGART or your chipset is not supported by the NVIdia driver, your system will hang when trying to use the NVidia Binary Driver.
