Default GeForce4 mx acceleration on freebsd

hi, I installed the bsd gfx driver from nvidia page, but it doesnt seem to work I have the latest version of freebsd and the module seems to load with no errors if I use "kldload nvidia.ko" but I still dont have opengl acceleration This module however krashes the system if loaded at boottime. How do I make my 3d acceleration work?
