Red face Ascii Console unreadable upon switch screens..

As far as the installation goes, it works a dream on my Dell 5150. The display is configured as:

NVidia GeForce FX Go5200
DELL 1400xLAPTOP DISPLAY PANEL [31-90Khz/59-75Hz]
Resolution: 1400x1050
Color Depth: 16bit.

However, when I switch to console (via CTL-ALT-1, or any other ascii screen), the text is completely unreadable. This only happens once X has been run. That is, upon boot up, the console is readable, it's only once X kicks into life that the sceen text changes.

Any one got any clues as to what I am doing wrong?
Oh, I'm running SuSE 9.0.

Thanks in advance.
