Default I need a card that I can be sure will work on my system

I'm using Mandrake 10.0 for the AMD 64 (running in 64 bit mode, obviously). After having a lot of bad luck with ATI, which not only doesn't support 64-bit drivers, but also doesn't even support the 2.6 kernal release, I decided I want to try an Nvidia card. I'm doing this since I've heard Nvidia has better driver support for Linux and I want to make absoloutly certain that an Nvidia card would actually work in my system. So my question is, will an nvidia card work in 64 bit mode on Mandrake with the 2.6 kernel, and if so, what card would I likely have the best luck with?

Here is where you can download NVIDIA drivers for 64-bit Linux. They should support the full complement of GeForce and TNT chips.

Which card you buy depends on what you're going to do with your system. If you want to have solid gaming performance (both in Linux and Windows), a card like the GeForce FX 5900 non-ultra/XT/SE would be a great choice as they're priced for about $180 or less at most online shops. If you will be doing light/moderate gaming, you can buy a GeForce FX 5700 non-ultra for about $130 or less. If you won't be doing any gaming at all, GeForce4 Ti4200 cards are available for less than $100.

I think you have to be more wary of the motherboard you are using.
The NVIDIA drivers are obviously better than ATI on 64bit support, but what I have encountered is that my QUADRO FX3000G is running at PCI speed with AGP support disabled.

I am not able to determine if it's NVIDIA driver issue, SuSE Linux issue, or mainboard BIOS issue.

The reason I say this is the I have gotten AGP enabled with 3D acceleration on another board, using FC1 64bit with QUADRO FX3000G, but not on another board with the same FX3000G amd FC1.... so it comes down to the mainboard.

NVIDIA drivers still install ok... but AGP if disabled.
FYI, glxgears with AGP off is ~3000fps.
glxgears with AGP on is 25,000fps...

Cheers!

why do you say that?

Is 25,000fps too high? too low?

That is what I got.. and if I remember right... should be running at 24bit

I'm using an MS-6741 motherboard. Anyone know if I should get good results using this board?
