Default NVAGP -> i don`t understand

can you help me to understand this:

In the /etc/X11/XF86Config i can set following options:
Option "NvAgp" "0" # disables AGP support
Option "NvAgp" "1" # use NVAGP, if possible
Option "NvAgp" "2" # use AGPGART, if possible
Option "NvAGP" "3" Option "NvAgp" "0" # disables AGP support
What i don`t understand and couldn`t find out:
What does this to my computer?? What means this AGP Option?
I think if i disable AGP my computer won`t work because the graphik card needs AGP. But when i set 'Option "NvAgp" "0"' my graphik works well.
And: Whats the difference between NVAGP and AGPGART?

I would be very happy if you can help me understanding this!!

Thank you.

In the case on the nvidia drivers there are two drivers (agpgart which is part of the linux kernel and nvidia's own agp implementation). Using the nvagp option you can disable agp and using it you can switch between the two agp drivers. Normally you can ignore this option. Nowadays agpgart and nvidia's agp perform the same. Sometimes it can help to switch between those for example if your chipset is too new to be supported in the nvidia driver.

AGP is the bus used to connected your videocard to the system. It has some advantages over normal PCI besides the higher busspeed. If you "disable AGP" the extra whistles AGP offers over PCI are disabled and the card behaves like a PCI card but then at a faster bus.

Thank you very much for this information!!
It seems that in my computer with an old, or new NVIDIA Card only AGP 0 is possible. In all other modes the computer hangs up at X startup.
