I have a geforce 2 mx and i don't know why but i installed the driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg0.run and i succeed in having the logo nvidia and i have the twinview too. But when i run glxgears i've got 400fps max. Have i forgot something in the kernel config? help please!!! here is my XF86Config-4 ************************************************** ********************** # File generated by XFdrake. # ************************************************** ******************** # Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of # this file. # ************************************************** ******************** Section "Files" # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. really, i've read many config where it runs at 1000fps and more. In the winex readme it's written that under 500fps, you should reconfig your 3D. So i wonder if it's really ok. Of course with 16 bit ColorDeph it reaches 800fps...

Back when I was using my Aopen GF2 MX400, I was having ~840fps with the 5336 and ~920fps with the 4620.

did you do anything special? Have you just install mandrake 10.0 and it work perfectly?
If you were in 24b , there is a pb in my config? have you config your own kernel? because i'm a newbie in compiling and configuring kernel and i wonder if i forgot something. Anyway when i was using my old kernel (2.4.23) i have the same perf. I read many thing about SBA and Fast Writes, but i don't know how to enable them. #cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/* Fast Writes: Supported SBA: Not Supported AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x Registers: 0x1f000017:0x1f000104 Host Bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8363/8365 [KT133/KM133] Fast Writes: Not Supported SBA: Supported AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x Registers: 0x1f000207:0x00000104 Status: Enabled Driver: NVIDIA AGP Rate: 4x Fast Writes: Disabled SBA: Disabled I don't understand what is not supported and where and how modify this. help please |

You need to add in the /etc/modules.conf (2.4.x kernel) or /etc/modprobe.conf (2.6.x kernel)

Here is my card (I think if you have sdram performance will be in the same range) Quote:

I try it but nothings happens. I add the line you tell me in modprobe.conf, i reload the nvidia module et restart X.
here is what nvclock returns to me # nvclock -i NVClock v0.7 -- General info -- Card: nVidia Geforce 2 MX 100/200 PCI id: 0x111 GPU speed: 174.997 MHz Bustype: AGP -- Memory info -- Amount: 32 MB Type: 128 bit SDR Speed: 165.958 MHz -- AGP info -- Status: Enabled Rate: 4X AGP rates: 1X 2X 4X Fast Writes: Disabled SBA: Unsupported it seems that fast writes is unsopported somewhere but i don't know where and how change this. As you can see i use SDRAM See my config: Athlon 1.2 g // 256 SDRAM // geforce2 MX ( 32M SDRAM). Maybe i'm wrong and my perfs are normal. but i don't think so |

There is something wrong. I got the same results. I tried the TNT card and got 400fps. nothing to do with fastwrite or SBA.

Hmmm... you have 400fps....
It seems that I have even bigger problems....glxgears shows max 285fps ((CPU: AthlonXP 2000+ MB Chipset: KT400 Video: GeForce2 MX400 64MB nvclock shows that FastWrite and SBA are even Unsupported ( but it must be software incompactiblity because my motherboard supports AGP 8x and I think it must support these features... Kernel is 2.6.5 (custom compile), but I had same performace on Mandrake 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 and know 10.0 (Somebody...pleasseee helpp (( |

are you sure to have correctly compile your kernel. can you show us your XF86Config-4. And it's surprising because with no custom kernel in my old mdk 9.1 i had the better perfs. I suppose with a 64Mb card you should have better perfs than mine. All this is surprising because i read in many forum that person with geforce 2 reach 1200/1500 fps.

I changed to 16bit now and have ~700fps.... of course it's not 1500fps and i would be very happy if I had such big fps too, but I'am realist Quake3 is working on 100fps now (not highest detail settings)... and when i had WindowsXP Quake3 worked ~100fps too with saime settings... So I think it's maximum that can do my video card...of course i can be wrong, maybe there is frame limit in quake:/ but probably video card is bad manufactured, I bought cheapest one (manufacture is Daytona) and it's not Asus quality Thanks for your reply! ![]() |

Quake3 frames are limited by com_maxfps. Set it to 0 and you get whatever your card can render
