When you people in the US quote prices, is that including sales tax? I know when Vamp says £24.99 thats including 17.5% sales tax, and here in France its 19.6%. The reason I bring this up is that there is a big difference in the US compared to most other places in the world. I know the sales tax varies from state to state, but the most sales tax i have seen on a video card was around 7%!! It seems to me why things seem cheaper in the US is the difference in sales tax. So BF1942 for £24.99 incl.tax or £20 ex.tax vs $20 ex.tax!!!

Sales tax?
I don't know how tax works where you guys live, but if you buy something from a state outside of where you live (either by phone, mail or net) you don't pay sales tax, because there is no federal salex tax, only state sales tax, it's a loophole basically...

Basicly in the UK you pay 17.5% sales tax on almost everything you buy. When I inported my GF3 from the US, I had to pay the sales tax of 19.6% here!! There are no loop holes here, we all have to pay the sales tax

Standard shipping though is $5.99.... but thats for FedEx 2 Day - Continental US for 1 to 3 games (looking off a recent bill from GoGamer). Still though only $25.98 for BF1942 w/ shipping is still better than 27 pounds.

Gogamer.com is a great place to buy from.
To follow up on what Matthyahuw said. The states would love the power to tax all net transactions. Guess there's nothing like killing the golden goose. ![]() http://www.internetnews.com/ec-news/...e.php/4_859721 Currently, Internet sales are handled in the same way as catalog and telephone sales: If the retailer has a store in the purchaser's state, a sales tax is supposed to be added to the bill. But the Supreme Court has ruled that companies cannot be required to collect taxes in states where they have no physical presence. more: http://news.com.com/2009-1017-275093.html |

sbp's got it nailed. You can't be charged tax if the place you're ordering from doesn't have a physical presence/retail outlet in your state. Case and point: I wasn't charged tax when I ordered my Dell laptop, but I would have been charged if I ordered a Gateway (there are Gateway country stores here in Illinois).
What I can't believe is the astronomical sales tax percentages that you folks overseas pay. 19%?!?!? That's insane! I thought 8.25% (Cook County, IL) was bad, but that's nothing compared to what you folks in Europe have to deal with. ![]() |

hey, 9% statewide in alabama.
and we still can't fund education. heh Anyway... I think a lot of the increased sales tax over in Europe is that they get a LOT more from the govt's than the US does (isn't health insurance/health care nationalized in a lot of European countries?) and that a LOT more has to be imported... |
