Hola. I have a Ti4200 that I could never get to stop freezing with the nvidia drivers. Works fine with nv. I've tried everything. Different mobo, different kernels/distros, fastwrite off, different AGP settings, driver versions, etc. Here are my particulars. Just wondering if anyone had any last ideas before I send it back.
- Asus GeForce4 Ti 4200 128M rev a3 - Driver version 4363 - Gentoo 2.6.3-r1 - Model: GeForce4 Ti 4200 IRQ: 11 Video BIOS: ??.??.??.??.?? Card Type: AGP - AMD xp 1800+ - A7N8X-X |

In the example log you are using a driver version that (unless patched) does not support the kernel you claim to be running, I just want to make sure you understand that.. and know the options you have tried are / were viable attempts.
Does the card function in AGP modes on another system / OS (thinking windows here..)? You mention agp settings, but have to specifically made sure that agpgart was not compiled into the kernel (it was a module if built at all)? There is nothing in the log or config to indicate it is being setup/used improperly (other than possible unpatched state with 2.6), so do the video card and motherboard worked together in AGP modes.. has it worked before, if so, when and how? Did another card work before (which) ? |

Hey, thanks for replying guys. I didn´t know that the nvidia driver had to be patched for the 2.6 kernel. I will look into whether or not the gentoo ebuild patches automatically. As for the card working under windows, I think it worked okay when I first got it, but I havn´t tried since. I got it specifically for the Linux support. I guess I will load Windows and see if it works.

Gentoo automatically applies the 2.6 patches, so that's not your problem. Have you tried NVAGP? Can you supply your kernel messages? (dmesg)
I had a similar problem with my PNY GeForce 4 Ti4200 and had to RMA the board. |
