Default NVIDIA driver with latest Fedora Core 2 system

I have upgraded my Linux box to the latest
Red Hat Fedora Core 2 - test 2 released yesterday.
It is running a REd hat modified version of the 2.6.3 kernel.
I downloaded the latest nvidia 5336 version linux driver and installed it.

I next modified the XF86Config file and replaced the nv driver with nvidia.

When I rebooted typed startx to load the X server.

The screen went black and the keyboard and mouse stopped responding.

After I rebooted and examined the X86Free.0.log file I found that the
last line in the file was

"NVIDIA CPU detected as Riva TNT"

It appears as if the entire system locked up at that point.

I had previously been running Fedora core 2 Test 1.

I found that the system would run the NVIDIA driver with the
Red hat 2.6.1 kernel. However, as soon as I upgraded to the newer
Fedora 2.6.3 kernel , the I could not longer run X with either
the nv or the nvidia driver.

Check the system log (/var/log/messages) to see what is happening. I am running 2.6.4 (stock from kernel.org) and 5336 on Fedora 1 with no problems.
Since the Fedora Core2 Test2 is about testing SE Linux & 2.6 , did they enable SE in the 2.6 kernel too? Could that be the problem? (I haven't installed FC2 Test 2 yet so I'm just speculating).

I'm having the exact same problem: blank screen + irrecoverable lockup
My setup:
geForce 5200 FX Ultra + 5336 Driver + FC2-test2 + Dual Athlon MP

Security Enhanced - they did it for the 2.4.24 kernel and it's creating an interesting discussion in the ferdora-development group.

I may get to loading FC2-T2 up this PM (with the 2.6) kernel and then I won't be (too) blind to the issues and problems.

Ok, loaded FC2-T2 and am playing with it.
It is the 2.6.3 kernel that gets loaded. If you did not select to run in permissive mode on the "firewall" install page, you may be in the SELinux enforced security mode.
Check that by logging in and see that the file /etc/sysconfig/selinux is set to permissive (SELINUX=permissive).

In permissive mode, I loaded up the NVIDIA 5336 graphics driver (had to build the module when asked in the install). Edited out "DRI" in the XF86Config file and changed the driver to nvidia from nv and all went well with X running.

So, just my experience so far - maybe this'll help.

I hate to say it, but i removed teh line load "dri" and still get the halted system

alsa, i have set SElinux to off, or the least restrictive setting in the install under firewall section.. if its turned on, you cant even install nvidia drivers.
