Default Resolution Cap?

Hello.
I just installed the nvidia drivers and did the walkthrough editing the x86config file. I haven't done anything else special (do I need to...?).
The problem I'm having is that I can't change my resolution from 800x600. The nvidia logo appears when I'm starting x-server, so I know the drivers installed.
What makes me suspicious that I haven't done something right is the driver labeled in the 'change resolution' utility is 'GeForce 4 generic'. Shouldn't that be something more specific like Ti4400??
If you have any ideas, I'd be really appreciative - - I can't live in 800x600 forever T_T;

Default Re: Resolution Cap?

I'm no Linux expert, but I wonder if this would help.
This is my XConfig file. I use GForce MMX 440 8x, SyncMaster 551v, and i've got a verry nice 1024x768 resolution.

Default Re: Resolution Cap?

Citan post your XF86Config file and the log file. Likely there's something wrong with or the refresh rates or the nvidia drivers are rejecting your 1024x768. (in the last case it is fixable by adding the option IgnoreEdid)
