I have a problem configuring dual displays on my Mandrake 10 box, i have managed to get the clone(see attached XF86Config-4) mode working, and can also easily switch between my crt and tv, the problem arises when i try to activate twinview ie, crt one screen, tv second screen.
If i do a Option "TwinViewOrientation" "clone" everything is fine, if i do a Option "TwinViewOrientation" "LeftOf" or any other setting except clone my X server refuses to start, i get screens found, but none have a usable configuration. I have tried differend device settings, and even to start two seperate x server screens, but to no avail, im am not a linux noob, but i just cannot see where i have gone wrong, any guru's out there with any answers??... I am using driver version 5341 and 2.6.3-4mdkenterprise kernel. i have also had this problem with driver version 5336, and i get exactly the same error... My tv out does support 1027x768 although i have tried Option "MetaModes" "1024x768,800x600;800x600,800x600" I have also tried to add screen and monitor id's, but upon browsing the forums, i see these may/may not be needed !!!! HELP !!!!!! *edited I have got dualview kinda working, but my dpi/fonts has gone nuts(yes, easily corrected by resizing the icons/fonts, but how about when i switch back??...lol)! I achived this by doubling the height in the Screen subsection, using virtual X rather than real resolutions, and telling twinview my tv is above my monitor (ie Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Above")(see XF86Config-4dualveiwon.txt) ie : Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "tv" Device "device1" Monitor "tv" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 1024 1536 EndSubsection EndSection I dunno if this is how its supposed to be done, but it does work, the only problem now is my fonts/icons - applications seem to detect the correct dpi, but X and kde all looks a little large... any suggestions (apart from redoing the font sizes everytime i change the display mode??..lol)?
