Angry Nvidia Nforce2 IDE Problems

Hello, I have a FIC AU13 motherboard, with 80gb SE WD Drive, OptoRite 48x24x48 CDRW, Radeon 9600 Pro, and USB Keyboard / PS/2 Keyboard ~

Anyhow, I was installing the IDE Drivers for the nforce2 FIC motherboard, and every time I go shutdown now, it like, completely locks up at "Windows is Shutting Down" and the Mouse and Keyboard are locked, By any chance do any of you know how to fix this so it shuts down normally? Thanks in Advanced.

Hmm I have never had such problems with my ABIT NF7-S v2.0 I am using the latest beta IDE drivers available at nvidia's website. Can't say I had much performance increase or decrease but never had such problems as u have mentioned. Maybe you should goto safe mode unstilll the drivers for IDE and install the Forceware UDA package available at nvidia's website for nforce2 website, if that is what u are using maybe you should try the latest beta drivers which is also posted on nvidia's website.

I've tried both, What's odd, is with the ollddddd IDE package it worked fine... but at that time I had ATA66 Cables (And I don't know where they went, and 1 of em broke so I'm using ATA33 right now) ~ Could the cables cause the problem>?

Heh... you just answered your own question. Btw, newer HDs require the ata66/100 IDE cables, never use the ata33 on them but its ok to use them on the CDrom(optical) drives.

What "ollddddd IDE package" were you talking about... the set that came with the motherboard?

Yes. they were the ones that came with the mobo.
It was a unified package nvidia exe tho.
I don't remember exactly which version, however.

Since you have the correct IDE cables back in, it should go back to normal... perhaps maybe the set your using now might be defective, it does happen unfortunately. Do you have any other ata66/100 cables to try, if not... last resort would be to reformat and set it up exactly the way you had it before the problems arose.

I reformat regularly.

Right now I'm on one ATA100 and one ATA33
(The CDROM one i think was a mispackage when I ordered some cables -- It's the ATA33 one)

Anyhow, I'll see if it shuts down normally. I don't shut down often
