Default Can't install 1.0-5332 for AMD 64 -- MDK 10 b2

Has anyone sucessfully installed this driver on Mandrake 10 beta 2?

I have tried a number of different angles, (including using the files and instructions at www.minion.de ). All to no avail.

No precompiled interface can be found, so then I try to have the installer compile one, but it always stops because it can't find the file modversions.h.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am new to Linux, by the way, but really enjoying the possibility of being free of M$. Things are getting better, but this kind of stuff does drives me nuts.

Thanks in advance.

-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes)
-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
your kernel.
-> Using the kernel include path '/usr/src/linux-2.6.3-7mdk/include' as
specified by the '--kernel-include-dir' commandline option.
ERROR: The kernel header file
'/usr/src/linux-2.6.3-7mdk/include/linux/modversions.h' does not exist.
The most likely reason for this is that the kernel header files in
'/usr/src/linux-2.6.3-7mdk/include' have not been configured.

'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux

Do you have 2.6.3-7mdk kernel source installed and unpacked in /usr/src/linux-2.6.3-7mdk

Yes I do -- and I'm passing the kernel include path to the installer. I'm assuming from the log file that this is working, but it's not finding modversions.h, so I'm not entirely sure if it's correct. (By the way, I've tried without any arguments as well, with the same results.)

You mention that you already have been to www.minion.de. Have you tried the patched installer you can find here?

Thanks for asking that -- I used their patched installer just now and it installed without any problems (I thought I had already tried that, but I guess not).

Now if I can only figure out the FX86Config-4 file. I haven't been able to use the driver yet -- each time I change the settings, X won't start: it says found screen but configuration isn't correct. Guess I'll keep tinkering with it.

Thanks again!

What I had to do to get that driver working was to do a modprobe nvidia, then startx. I then added the line modprobe nvidia to my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file right above the touch /var/~ line (last line in the file). Now the driver loads durring boot and all is well. Now if only UT2004 would load maps faster than the 5-7 min. that it is taking. If I remember correctly, nvidia had some trouble with UT once before. They were very quick to fix that one. I am wondering if there might be a problem with this one??

Code:
    if [ -f /etc/security/msec/issue.net.$SECURE_LEVEL ]; then
	cat /etc/security/msec/issue.net.$SECURE_LEVEL > /etc/issue.net
    elif [ -f /etc/security/msec/issue.net ]; then
	cat /etc/security/msec/issue.net > /etc/issue.net
    else
	rm -f /etc/issue.net
    fi
fi

modprob nvidia
touch /var/lock/subsys/local
