Default MSN Zone problems

A friend of mine recently got a brand new Dell. He was very happy with it, but last week he shut it off for a few hours; when he came back, logging into MSN Zone was horribly slow, and when he tries to join a cribbage gaming room, it changes his resolution to 640x480x8. I've dug through his Internet Options, and even tried to get Firefox working with MSN Zone to no avail. His daughter's computer runs XP and IE 6.0 (just like him) and doesn't have any trouble with it. Ditto for his wife's PC, running Win98SE and IE 5.5.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped.
