I have the Core Distribution of linux (version: 2.4.18, patched with low latency patch) and i would like to install the graphics card driver mainly for playing Divx videos and stuff with Mplayer. But i can't install the drivers
i have the following file downloaded from the driver site:NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run When i run the file with the following command: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run, It runs the installer but i'm getting the message that i'm not using the same compiler which i used to comile my linux kernel. :S! But according i used version gcc 3.2 to compile my kernel and it's the same version so i don't get it gcc-version-check failed: Could not compile gcc-version-check.c And when i want to resume anyway i get the following message: Unable to build NVIDIA kernel module. and exits the setup :'(. I don't get it! Could any1 help me please! Note that i'm a linux noob! Last edited by djfuzz; 05-22-04 at 08:49 AM. |

I take it you are using the Fedore Core distribution. Check out this page and see if that can help you: http://www.brandonhutchinson.com/NVI...Hat_Linux.html

make[1]: cc: Command not found
Sounds like your compiler isn't installed properly. Make sure your gcc installation isn't screwed up somehow.

Ok, so you can compile other programs? Weird indeed, then the compiler should be installed properly. BTW, the distro you are using seems targetted to more advanced users, and since you say you are pretty new to Linux, maybe you should try an easier one like Fedora or at the most Slackware or Gentoo?
Anyway, I don't really see why the compile will fail if you are able to compile other programs. You COULD do 'export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=2' and then run the installer again, to see if that solves your problems, but I've heard that that might not always be a good idea.

MMM didn't know that it was for more advanced users but i've chose the distro because it starts really fast and it's running on an MP3 jukebox and i wan't to keep it start really fast. (starts within 10 sec: Stuff like LCDd, Irmp3d, Irexec, Network, Btfpd, Telnetd, Soundcard loaded). I can play video formats like DIVx on it but sometimes it falters a little so would like to get video acceleration.
And i think it's strange why shouldn't it run on this distro! But i'f someone else has a distro which starts faster than 10 sec on a 466 cely with the stuff loaded described above let me know! connyosis, many MANY thanks for your reply i appreciate it very very much! I'll try the stuff you described below... Hope it works! BTW i did a search on google and found that i might need the following: glibc-1.09.1.tar.gz don't know if it is the same thing as gcc but could that be the issue that it might not be installed?

YES YES YES! PEEPS! ME FOUND SOLUTION!
Read the stuff above if you need to know what my problem WAS ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Allright, me was playing arround with another disk because i WANTED the drivers installed well here's what i did: i've created an symbolic link between gcc and cc because every time i typed cc i'd get: -bash command not found so for noobies like me i did this: ln -s gcc cc and copied it to the /usr/bin dir. And tried to install the drivers and it worked! Hopefully there are more noobs like me with this core distro and have the same problem!! GrEetz Ya ALL! Deejay!
