I've been trying to download the newest drivers for a couple days now and download.nvidia.com seems to be down. I did manage to get a copy of the install file, but it seems it has hard coded in it download.nvidia.com as the mirror for precompiled kernels. Since its down, what are we supposed to do?

It's not down, I just tried it and works fine.

It most defenetly is down. I've tried it on a number of computers now and none of them can download from it.

Sorry, but download.nvidia.com is not down, and it wasn't earlier either...
