Default Windows is dead help

Windows xp is dead. I was working away a suddenly the sound stops working so i go OK shutdown restart everything should be OK. I was wrong windows will not boot up. I cant get into any of the different safe modes. I've disabled the sound hell I've disabled everything/unplugged everything and to no avail. I don't think it is hardware because i can boot into my linux partition and everything works just fine. My real question is is there a file that I can edit in the windows partition that might disable the nvidia motherboard drivers and reset them to the default ones? I really don't want to reinstall everything I've got on there.

By the way windows froze while shutting down and i had to crash it.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Thankyou in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "saving windows from linux" unless you're referring to pointing yer mbr to the correct windows parition by editing yer boot.ini file located in the root dir.

Also make sure you're using the latest version of the nforce drivers as everyone knows the earlier vers of their ide drvs were plauged w/ problems. If you just want to revert back to the win ide drvs you have two choices: 1) do a search for "nvidia recovery kit" 2) Reinstall or repair existing windows installation using the setup cd.

I would first check my hardware stability but running MemTest to check CPU,RAM,MB. Then run the manufacturers hard disk test to make sure the HDD is still alive. Then reinstall windows overt the top of the current install so it preserves everything, just gives you a new OS. I have successfully done this a number of times.

What I mean by "saving windows from linux" is can you edit a file in windows that will force windows to load the default drivers for a pecticular piece of hardware.

As for installing windows over another i've done that a few times but the results have been a even more bloated install and I personally like a clean fresh install over a layered one.
