I'm still working on my ut2003 hanging problems.
when I start the game (or even army ops), whenever there's 3D info on the screen, it hangs up. It'll pause for a few seconds, then I can play, then it'll hang up again. If I hit ctrl-alt-f2 and go to a console, I can hear the sound from the game and it continues just fine (no video problems). This is: P4 2.6g MDK 10 w/ 2.63-7 and the nvidia 5336 drivers Ti4200 64mb card. Someone sugested installing the 4496 drivers, but I get a 'kernel header not configured' error. any ideas?? help!! . . .shawn

I switched the Option "NvAGP" to "0" and that seemed to help a bit. It doesn't hang up as long, but still just as often. am I getting close?

to use the 4496 drives with a 2.6 kernel you need the patch from http://www.minion.de unlike http://www.minion.net which gives you poetry

okay, well that didn't work. It didn't help my problem at all. I'm starting to think that it's hardware related. I'm gonna try upgrading the BIOS on my motherboard and see what that does.

Okay, I upgraded my BIOS and that didn't do jack. I set the NVAGP to '0', turned down all the detais and turned off all the lense flares and what not and the game ran fine. It looked like crap, but it worked. Do I not have the correct options set up for this card? Is the card not working with my motherboard correctly?
HELP!

I am also having this problem. I have tried quite a few driver versions and also a few options for the drivers. This is also happening in UT2004. They are both patched to the latest versions. I have to believe it is a problem on my system and not with the game.
AMD xp2100+ Geforce TI4600 512 meg ram cat /proc/version returns Linux version 2.6.3-4mdk (nplanel@n3.mandrakesoft.com) (gcc version 3.3.2 (Mandrake Linux 10.0 3.3.2-6mdk)) #1 Tue Mar 2 07:26:13 CET 2004 for the version Winex runs everything I throw at it with no problems what-so-ever. bill |

I still haven't figured it out. My roommate decided to try to slow down my RAM and see if that helped. It didn't do jack. When I run ArmyOps in a window and with the details turned down, it seems to work okay. I think I'm gonna try a new video card and see if that help my problem.
What motherboard chipset do you have?

I have had simular problems and found that restarting the x server at least once when it has started solves my problems - I don't know what causes them though.
Proccessor: Athlon XP 2600+ Motherboard: PC Chips M848A Graphics Card: WinFast A340T (Geforce FX 5200) Ram: 2 x 256mb PC3200 DDR Mandrake 10 (running 9.2 kernel because of this) Hope this helps. |

I think the one BIOS setting that was was killing me was the PCI latency timer. Originally, it was set to 4. My new card (5500) told me to change this to 128. My games were working all right with this setting, but the rest of Linux was screwy. I hit the 'default settings' for that page in my BIOS, and now everything is normal! Very strange.
