Question Color depth and refresh rate issues

I'm having trouble with setting up my X Display correctly. I have installed the newest nvidia linux driver for my GF4 and everything works.

The problem is that my refresh rate is stuck at 60Hz.. even though i have set VertRefresh in the config file to "50-100".

The other problem is that I can't set a higher color depth than 16-bit. Is there no support for 24- and 32-bit display modes?

Any help or suggestions are welcome!

Look at the Video Modes section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. Copy the one that has 8, 15, or 16 and just change that value to 24 and 32.

It should look something like this;

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
ViewPort 0 0

Also, make sure that you changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia", like so;

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce4"
VendorName "Gainward"
BoardName "GeForce4 Ti4200"
Driver "nvidia"
