I think that the values you mentioned, will be all you will get. The GF 4 MX440 I have at the office, just only allows one to play UT2K4 Demo, with everything pretty much turned down. And at a resolution of 1024x768, where as the FX5950Ultra I run at 1280x1024 everything maxed out, and I get 30-60fps depending on whether I'm in combat or not.

lotheac, you are so right.
Just by opening up a browser you can watch the numbers climb and climb and climb. True, glx gears is not a benching tool.
I had a problem
with the mesa drivers being loaded and i was getting like 152. or something like that.Really stupid. All it took was a person in the forum with a suggestion. I tried and it worked. I then passed my knowledge on.<see previous post> Linux is so awsome to use. No other operating system can alow you to learn so much and get so much support from others.

Hello,
I am also awfully slow.

I found this line in my Xlog:

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA XFree86 driver not found)

It is FC2, so in fact I am using X.org.
I installed the driver 6106 on my FX5200.
And I know I was faster one day!

I also used the nv_check.sh script and found no errors.
By the way: I am using kernel 2.6.7 with 8kstacks.

These packages are installed
xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL-6.7.0-2
xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU-6.7.0-2

these are the links:
ls /usr/lib/libGL* -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1 -> libGLcore.so.1.0.6106
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 7132152 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1.0.6106
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 653 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGL.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGL.so -> libGL.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.0.6106
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 423832 Jul 8 08:53 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.0.6106
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Jun 11 22:07 /usr/lib/libGLU.so -> ../../usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 Jun 11 22:01 /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1 -> ../../usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so.1

Regards
Cornelius

About the problem reported often : glxinfos reporting "no direct rendering", one trick that worked for me :

- the install of the drivers was ok, I spent hours looking for solutions....

--> till I tried ldd /usr/X11R6/bin/glxinfo
===> the libGL it xas looking for was in /usr/lib/opengl/xfree/lib (or something),
but NVIDIA GL ara in /usr/lib. After a Sherlock Holmes job following symlinks, I understand that it linked toward /usr/X11R6/lib

=> solution, I went in /etc/ld.so.conf to put /usr/lib BEFORE /usr/X11R6/lib

--> ran ldconfig

-> glxinfo no more complains !

Hope it helps
